PTSD
PTSD also known at post-traumatic stress disorder changed lives for the person who has it and their friends a family. I found the topic very interesting so I decided to research it more. An estimated 7.8% or 24.4 million Americans will experience PTSD in a lifetime. But what I found more interesting is that women are 2 times a likely to develop PTSD compared to men. Symptoms of PTSD must last at least one month to be considered PTSD. There are many things that can cause PTSD such as severe psychological trauma or stress, change in environment, neglect, and more.

PTSD is a big issue and society has failed those who have suffered. This is highlighted by how only a few thousand veterans have died as the result of active combat, however, hundreds of thousands of veterans have died by committing suicide, many of them suffering from PTSD and the depression that accompanies it.
ReplyDeleteI think it is very interesting that women are 2 times more likely to experience PTSD than men. I say this because when I think of people having PTSD the image that comes to my mind is a male military veteran. I think that this probably has something to do with how the disorder is publicized by mainstream media. But it seems like if women are more susceptible to this disorder it would be logical for media to use a women to promote PTSD.
ReplyDeleteI found it very interesting that women are more likely to get PTSD. I knew that PTSD is a big issue but I didn't realize how many people get it. Also it not only limited to veterans there are many other cases of PTSD from other events that could be traumatic.
