College Campus Sexual Assault

Along with my previous post about sexual assault in high schools, I thought it would be important to talk about the alarming sexual assault rates on college campuses. Many of us will be attending college next year, so this is extremely relevant.  According to a RAINN stat, 11.2% of college students experience rape through physical force, and many more through verbal abuse. Many rape stats claim that as many as 1 in 4 women on a college campus will experience sexual assault. Most people also have a hard time reporting their sexual assault to the school. Most schools want to keep their rape stats low in order to improve their image, so they make it difficult for students to report. Many go as far as to blame the victim for what happened, by asking what they were wearing, why they drank, etc. It all feels really unfair to think that I could be raped and then not have the support of my school.
