Education

I think that Claire's documentary on how the American School system is different than the Finnish school system was very interesting. It touched on a few topics within school that I have heard a lot about in the past couple of years. The discussion that caught my attention most in this documentary was the talk about standardized tests. This peaked my attention because this is a topic that I have struggled with since I got to high school. In the american school system there is a lot of attention put toward how good someones test scores are. I do not think that tests are a beneficial way to see what a person knows, because for people like me tests make us super anxious and thus we can't focus on the actual test but rather the anxiety that the test causes. For this reason I think standardized tests are an invaluable way to look at what a person knows.

  1. Some colleges have stopped considering standardized test scores. I'm really excited to see where that leads, because thus far we only have a year or two of data.
