News Networks Ignoring Real News
Throughout the election cycle, I (and I'm sure many others) became increasingly aware of the constant media attention that the Presidential election was getting. As important as the election for POTUS is, a lot of other issues were ignored by the TV News Networks. Certain networks have even admitted to ignoring other issues to cover the election, which I feel is absurd. Yes, the public needs to be informed on the election to make an educated vote, but this shouldn't leave out other important world issues. People were constantly being informed about Donald Trump's newest vulgar claims or updated on Hilary Clinton's emails, but what about the recent coup attempt in Turkey? Or Midway Atoll, the island in the pacific ocean that's being buried by plastic trash that ended up in the ocean? As important as our own country is, we need to also be thinking about the rest of the world. A majority of American's are uneducated about the problems going on across the globe, and this election cycle the news networks didn't help this issue.

I completely agree. I was in an uber the other day and the driver was born in europe or something and we started talking about world goings-on and specific incidents. We talked about riots and coups in little countries all over the world and I realized I didnt know a lot about what was going on in the world.
ReplyDeleteThis presents a sad reality in the world of American journalism and Mainstream Media. A lot of the reasons why they generally run stories which are "scandalous" in nature and not global current events is because it's what viewers tend to gravitate to and watch (often overwhelmingly more) than actual important news stories.
ReplyDeleteCable news is very much like this however many news sites on the internet in general will present actual stories and can help you keep up to date on current events.
