After watching the Protocols of Zion, I was intrigued by the fact that so many people are able to buy into conspiracies. I am not one who usually buys into conspiracies, but I do understand the logic behind it all. As more people begin to follow an idea, it becomes more "reliable". If powerful, popular, or wealthy people believe in some idea, it can be seen as though that it HAS to be credible because smart people believe it. Going off of that, people are willing to follow others without any proof. If it sounds like it could be possible, then there are people who believe in it. They also do not necessarily need to believe the whole thing in order to listen to it. That is the same for a lot of people, those who believe in conspiracies or not. Once someone is basically fixated on their own opinion, the idea of confirmation bias comes into play. Confirmation bias is the concept that people only look for and interpret any information to "confirm" their idea that they have thought of. This is hard not to do, but plays a huge part in the growing support of conspiracies. Although conspiracies may seem as though crazy to one group, the other may see it as a perfectly good explanation to events that have taken place. Everyone has the desire to believe in something and a conspiracy is something that people can hold onto.
Here is a link to some of the most popular conspiracies here in the US.

I agree, it's pretty crazy how so many people believe in all these crazy type of conspiracies. But,it just takes a small bit of confirmation that makes them totally believe in it. But, people can easily make themselves believe in pretty much anything.
ReplyDeleteIts really crazy that many people could believe in such crazy things, but its crazy that if their higher people that say things it puts in our mind that it is right.
ReplyDeleteI agree that a lot of people follow conspiracies without knowing the reasoning and evidence behind it, however i do think that some people are too quick to believe things. In our society a lot of people conform to the majorities opinions and some times that has a bad outcome so i think that we shouldn't be so quick to believe something if there is no evidence to prove that conspiracy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I think people believe in conspiracies because they were either raised in an environment where they influence by other people beliefs or they want it to be true. Another thing is that conspiracies don't need proof so people who believe in them don't need evidence.
