I thought this case was really interesting because of how current the issue is. I remember hearing about this on the news so learning about it in class was very helpful. I think this case just highlights the entitlement that privileged white students feel they have. Fisher felt that she deserved to be admitted to the University despite the fact that she was not qualified. As seniors in high school I think this case hits close to home with many of us. I've had several friends tell me, "Well, she only got in because she's black," or "I might just put that I'm part Native American to up my odds of getting in". These white students have no idea what it feels like to live in a world that's foundation was built on the idea of racism. For under qualified individuals to blame their rejection on their 'whiteness' is to me absolutely ridiculous. I’m glad with the outcome of this case because I feel Fisher needed to be put in her place. How do you guys feel about about affirmative action: an action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination, especially in relation to employment or education; positive discrimination?
I would agree with you on this case. I think that there are plenty of people who are not qualified to get into certain schools, and when they don't get in they immediately go looking for someone else to blame. As you said, "that is absolutely ridiculous", some people need to learn to take responsibility for somethings and not go looking for a third party to blame for their failings.
